Our son Maxton was diagnosed with left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) at his 19 week ultrasound. Maxton was born on 3/3/09 at Vanderbilt University. He fought hard for 18 days but earned his wings on 3/21/09. Maxton was an inspiration to many during his brief time on earth and has forever changed our lives. If your child is diagnosed with CDH, please feel free to contact us. Maxton may no longer live here on earth, but he will live forever in our hearts...

Our sweet angel baby

After 18 days on this beautiful earth, our sweet baby earned his angel wings tonight at 11:56 while David and I held him. They had done everything they could for him throughout the day, but he was not responding and David and I made the gut-wrenching decision to allow Maxton to go to heaven and be with God. I am completely heartbroken over this but we had to put Maxton before ourselves and he had just fought so hard he wasn't able to fight the newest battle. We had prayed that God would let us know when it was time and about 1 mintue later there was a knock at our door to discuss the day. We knew our little warrior was not able to win the battle. We are currently considering arrangements and will be sure to post them. We want to thank everyone for praying for our son. I know that he has touched many people and has accomplished so much in the past 18 days. I know I have said this before, but I cannot begin to describe how much Maxton's life has meant to me and my husband. We will never be the same people and have been changed for the better. We could have only hoped to share this with Maxton while here on earth, but know that we will be able to hold his beautiful little soul again in heaven. Thanks so much for praying for us.

Ashley and David,
We don't have words that can express how heartbroken we are for you two and your families. We know you did everything humanly possible for your precious Maxton. We, too, don't understand why he had to go to heaven so soon. But now our prayer for all of you is for "the peace that passes all understanding". We love you like our own.

Ashley and David,
Tears stream down my face as I read about your sweet Maxton. I know we've never met, but as a mother to a CDH survivor I feel this very strong connection to all the CDH families I read about. Each time another baby goes to heaven I struggle with the "whys". My heart aches for you and the pain you must be feeling. I like to think that a CDH baby, Daniel, who is so special to me is up there taking care of the new angels. Silly I guess, but it works for me.
All those you loved who have gone to heaven are with your baby now loving him and taking care of him. Take care of each other.
I will keep praying for your family.
God bless you all.

Ashley and David,

From two people who have never met you, we are so touched and blessed by your strength and never-ending love for your son. You truly have made me a better Mom. My husband and I pray for you several times a day and will contine to do so, as will the school where I teach. Please know that Maxton made an incredible impact on our lives and that his wings will help others with CDH. We are so sorry that your have lost him here on earth, but his love and spirit can do far greater works from Heaven. Words cannot express our sympathy.

Ashley, I am so sorry. My heart is just broken over this news. I wish I could think of the perfect thing to say to bring you peace and comfort, but I know there are no words. Only time can do that.

This morning, when I went to change Davis' diaper, he reached one arm up as high as he could and wiggled his fingers. I think he was waving to Maxton.

Please know we are thinking of you.

Oh, Ashley and David, I do not even know what to say. I have followed your journey so closely hoping for a different outcome than ours. It breaks my heart to read this post today. I was sitting in church today and praying so hard for you all and something told me things just were not right and I needed to pray for you and David, I came home to check this right when we got home. Wow, he was trying to tell me Maxton was with him. He is with you all as you grieve. Know that Maxton has touched so many lives and we will never forget him!! If you all need anything at all we are here for you!

Your "Chattanooga family" knows that we can say nothing to ease your loss but to say that we love both of you and pray for you to find comfort and peace. I keep telling myself that I do know two things: that someday we will understand why Maxton was taken and that God does not make mistakes. Impatient as I am, it is hard to wait for that understanding but it comforts none the less. Grandma, myself and Christopher wish that we could attend little Maxton's services but G'ma is not up to such a long trip and there is no one to help her when we are away. Please know that we are thinking of you.
Love always,
Grandmother, Christopher, & Leslie
