Our son Maxton was diagnosed with left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) at his 19 week ultrasound. Maxton was born on 3/3/09 at Vanderbilt University. He fought hard for 18 days but earned his wings on 3/21/09. Maxton was an inspiration to many during his brief time on earth and has forever changed our lives. If your child is diagnosed with CDH, please feel free to contact us. Maxton may no longer live here on earth, but he will live forever in our hearts...

MRI and 34 week BPP

Last night I went in for my MRI to see exactly where Max's organs are. The appointment was very exhausting and something I never want to do again. When I got there the tech explained that I was "very pregnant" and might not fit into the machine. She said she didn't know why they waited so long to do the MRI. I explained that my doctor said that they needed to wait til around 24 weeks so they could get a good picture of just where the baby's organs are. Then she asked what exactly was wrong with the baby. This upset me as she should have read my chart since she was supposed to be taking pictures!! Anyways, after alot of prodding and me refusing to go in on my back, I was put in on my side. It was pretty awful as I was basically jammed in there and every part of my body was touching the machine. AN HOUR AND A HALF later I was finally finished. I kept telling myself to suck it up because Max will be going through alot worse when he is born, so I think that is what made me get through it. :-( Here is to hoping they got some good pictures... they better have!

Today I went for my BPP and routine appt. The BPP was very short as Max was wiggling all over the place. He was practice breathing (it was neat to watch). My fluid level has gone up again. It was 31 today. I am hoping it goes back down. My uterus is also measuring full term. The doctors didn't seem too concerned.

We get the results of the MRI next Wed. when we are at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. Hopefully we will hear some good news!!! Pray for lungs and liver down!!!

I had an MRI at 25 weeks with Addison. It is a good thing that I had music and was really tired and actually feel asleep during the MRI. I went today to the doctor and my uterus is measuring 36 weeks (about 3 weeks ahead). They were not concerned with me either. I will continue to keep you and Maxton in my prayers.

Sometimes the techs can say insensitive things. We had one ultrasound tech ask us how we were ever going to pay for all Davis' care, and were we sure our insurance would cover it? Looking back it's kindof funny, but at the time I was really offended. Don't let it get you down!

Good luck with Maxton. I know he'll do just fine, and you are definitely in our thoughts & prayers.

Sometimes those techs don't think before they talk and they should have read your file before you showed up for your appointment. I hope you get good news next week about the MRI. My son was not diagnosed until birth with CDH, but I had very high fluid levels and meaured full term at 35 weeks. Ian shortly arrived at 36 weeks. Be prepared for anything, for high fluid levels can cause early labor.

Many prayers for your little boy and that he continues to get stronger with each passing day. He is going to amaze you and fight his CDH!!

Hugs, Tracy Meats - mom to Ian, born with a LCDH on 4/3/04 and WY and CO State Rep. for CHERUBS

I was measuring 2-2.5 weeks ahead until about 36 weeks. For some weird reason now he's measuring exactly 37 weeks at 37 weeks. Some babies just grow faster and then slow down at the end. Look at the positive side :) if he comes out early he will be bigger.

Praying for liver down and good healthy lungs for Maxton :)
