Our son Maxton was diagnosed with left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) at his 19 week ultrasound. Maxton was born on 3/3/09 at Vanderbilt University. He fought hard for 18 days but earned his wings on 3/21/09. Maxton was an inspiration to many during his brief time on earth and has forever changed our lives. If your child is diagnosed with CDH, please feel free to contact us. Maxton may no longer live here on earth, but he will live forever in our hearts...

36 weeks and a baby?

So last night was the full moon and alas, I am still pregnant. My mother in law just knew he was going to come, but Max decided otherwise. I am kind of glad.. as the day gets closer I am getting pretty scared for him. Anyways, this morning I went in for a BPP and OB appt. The BPP went well, though they had some trouble finding the "practice breathing". Maxton was very wiggly at first and again gave a thumbs up. I have a cute picture of it. He was also doing the "hang ten" sign and I think he tried to kick the probe off of my belly because we saw his foot several times. :-) I tell you, I can already tell he is going to be a handfull. The odd news from today is that my amniotic fluid went from 33 last Wed. to 17 today. This seemed like a big drop to me, but the doctor wasn't too worried, thought she did say maybe they measured wrong today.

Max has started to drop some but isn't all the way there yet. I am dialated to about 1 but the doctor said that his head was "still pretty far up there". She said she didn't think he would be coming "too soon". I decided that means he will probably be here today. :-) I think babies like to prove doctors wrong. I am hoping Maxton will wait until at least next week, so we will see.

I came across a few stories of babies with CDH born at Vanderbilt this week, so that has been helpful. I am supposed to speak with surgeon tomorrow on the phone. According to Children's Hospital he has been trying to call but the caller ID shows no calls from them except one, which I answered and was a reminder of my appt. today, so hopefully he will really call. He is planning to go over the MRI with me, though the OB already told me the report. Hopefully there isn't anything new and he is just wanting to see if I have any questions.

As always, thanks for reading and for prayers. David, Maxton and I really appreciate it. I have faith that Maxton will pull through all of this and I know part of that is due to many prayers.

Glad to hear Maxton is staying put for now. We had a Hurricane come through toward the end of my pregnancy and everyone was convinced Carter would make his appearance then, but thank goodness he didn't. I know as the weeks get closer, you become more terrified. Try to remain positive and convince yourself now that Maxton WILL SURVIVE. Thanks for always checking in on Carter. Let us know if you need anything or just need to talk. You can email me at kzmyers@yahoo.com.

So happy that Maxton is staying comfy, for it is so important CDH babies make it to full term or 36 weeks!! Thinking of you and continue to stay positive and strong for Maxton, and keep the faith that he will be a survivor!! Many prayers for Maxton.

Enjoy being pregnant and get as much rest as you can. We're thinking of you and little Max as his big day arrives. I know it's scary to think of what's ahead. The best advice I can give is to make sure whatever support system you need is there for you, and, like Kellie said, stay positive and believe in Maxton's ability to pull through. I am thinking of you and have you in my prayers. If you need anything I am here for you. I know there are so many emotions you are feeling right now. Stay strong. Remain positive. Give your belly a rub for me. Tell Maxton to fight CDH monster.

A friend sent us the "Chicks Dig Scars" onesie. She made it at www.simplycolors.com and it's a great gift idea. We've made a few for gifts and they always come out perfectly. One tip, purchase one size up b/c they shrink when washed.

I hope you are still doing well and aren't getting too stressed out. Hang in there!!

As far as the dog goes...we had my parents take her for a week before we came home. The day we came home, my mom bathed her and played with her all day so she was really worn out when she came home. Then we just let her in the house and while we held Carter, let her sniff him. We didn't make a big deal and pretended like it was nothing new. I think that really helped. If you're nervous and acting scared, your dog is going to pick up on that. Also, don't scold him everytime he goes near the baby b/c he'll learn to associate the baby with getting into trouble. Let him near the baby with caution (like someone holding the baby). Hope this helps!
